Bulbs of silver light in eye after the insertion of Densiron ...

I had a second PPV on my left eye for lower retinal detachment, and Densiron was placed inside.   It's been some 15 weeks now, and on the 16th week, the next PPV will have the heavy oil taken out.  All through the past 13 weeks, I have had two small "circles-of-encircling-silver-light" high up at the mid section of the very brim of my upper left eye's vision.  These two tiny circles seem to appear immediately after I wake up from sleep.  And they dissappear after several minutes.  At times, even during the day, I tend to see them swirling, encirling for a while, and then slowly dissappearing.  Or when I lie down, just before falling asleep.  It happens for a short while.   My concern is whether this is a sign that the lower portion of my left retina is not yet fully reattached.  Or ... is it a different phenomena altogether caused by the presence of the Densiron ? .  Can someone please help.   My opthalmologist says he sees nothing wrong with the retina, and cannot explain this queer "encirling tiny silver bulbs of light".

Dear Dr Hagan,

My left-eye's third PPV went through successfully two weeks ago.  The Densiron was vacuumed out, and my lens was changed too.  There was also stiching at one of the micro-probes entry point, the one that did the vacuuming of the dense oil, which had to be inserted with a "thicker" probe, I was told.

Two days after that, on review, my retina looked good, but my retinologist saw that there was blood inside the eye.  He said it will dissolve later.    On  the fourth day, I noticed there was a darkish "semi-circle-like" and semi-transparent like shape at the bottom of my treated eye's vision.

Several days later, the semi-transparent "mass" of deep-dark-red color started to have "gaps" in between.  Almost like a small piece of semi-transparent dark-red cloth with torn holes in it, spread across the lower vision of my treated eye -- east-west wise.

My retinologist was on vacation, but had told me to ring him in case I needed him urgently.   Which I did, and he said it was likely the blood is now breaking up from that one circular mass into the widened pattern that I see.   When I saw him on his retrun, he found that the retina was perfectly OK, but that there was some inflammation at the cornea.  He also said the lens was clear, and there was no blood directly behind the lens. He also said that since my eyes normally react to steroids, and thus I am currently using NSAID drops instead, it would be slower for the swelling to subside.

I wish to know from you Dr Hagan, will the blood dissolve by itself?   If so, within what timeframe?    Is there any oral medication I could take that would help enhance the dissolving of the blood, and clear the cornea ?

More light seems to be getting through in my left vision by today, the 14th day, but images are still unclear.  It looks rather cloudy and "milky".

Dr, what is your overall thinking / prognosis on my condtion?
Many, many thanks again, Dr Hagan.

    Sincerely,

Dear Dr Hagen,

My third PPV went through successfully seven days ago.  The Densiron was vacuumed out, and my lens was changed too.  There was also stiching at one of the micro-probes entry point, the one that did the vacuuming of the dense oil, which had to be inserted with a "thicker" probe.

Two days after that, on review, my retina looked good, but my retinologist saw that there was blood inside the eye.  He said it will dissolve later.    On  the fourth day, I noticed there was a darkish "semi-circle-like" shape at the bottom of my treated eye's vision.  But my vision was improving, I could see the images on the TV screen with my good-eye closed.  The next day, vision further improved.

This morning, the dark shape (and rather semi-transparent now)  turned into a deep-dark-red pattern with gaps in between.  Almost like a small piece of semi-transparent dark-red cloth with torn holes in it, spread across the lower vision of my treated eye -- east-west.

My retinologist is on vacation, but had told me to ring him in case I needed him urgently.   Which I did, and he said it was likely the blood is now breaking up from that one circular lump into the widened pattern that I see.   He will see me in three days' time.

I want to know from you Dr Hagen, will the blood dissolve by itself?   If so, within what timeframe?   If not, does it require any surgical intervention to have it cleaned ?    Is there any oral medication I could take that would help expedite the dissolving of the blood ?

What is your overall thinking / prognosis on my condtion?
Many, many thanks again, Dr Hagen.

    Most sincerely,

Many thanks, Dr Hagan.  Will you please give me the cues/links to the specific archives (I assume you are referring to those in this site, as well as other sites) where I can read about a variety of images caused by the  heavy oil.  Once again, Doc, many thanks indeed.  .......  LeoLim, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

If you will use the search feature and archives about oil in the eye you will see than there are many different descriptions of what images the oil causes. So it is not likely that your symptoms are a sign that the retina is/is not attached but rather images cause by the oil.

Just like a kaleidoscope produces an infinite number of images from the glass or plastic shards in the rotating head so also can oil or air or gas create a myriad of images.
