Retinal exam

Hey dr. Hagan, quick question for you.

When one older retinal specialist (also professor and surgeon) is looking at the retina, can he take a good look in quick time. Like, my surgeon looked at my eyes today, and it took him about 30 seconds per eye... it goes look at me, look left, look right, up and down...but not at the corners... Other doctors are saying that he is an old fox.. Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying he is not good, as a person he is one of the best people I have ever met.
I just want to know is it posibe to take a good look in little time, as other doctors (younger) are looking for almost few minutes... :s

I'm a ittle bit affraid because I had some weird back line in periphery when I was blinking very fast... he told me that I could see these lines and sometimes "stars" because of the laser that was done on that eye...
Could this be just in my brain, these lines or what?

Thank you for your answer, I taught that with age some doctors like him are getting much more experienced in exam, and in by that they don't have to look so long.

I just hope he took a good look :)

Wish you a good day, and take care.

Think of it like this. It's like when you lose your cell phone, somethings you look a long time for it and sometimes you look and find the first play you look.  It depends what you're looking for and how hard it is to find.

I may spend 30 seconds for a routine retina exam on someone I've taken care of for years and who has not complaints whereas a new patient with a family history of retinal detachment and flashes and floaters may take 10-15 minutes looking for holes or tears.

Age doesn't have anything to do with how long you look.
