Cataract Surgery Breakthrus?

Cataract Surgery Breakthrus?

Anyone know of any new advances or breakthrus on the horizon with Cataract Lenses or surgery?

I am presently letting my retina continue healing 7 months post Vitrectomy ERM peel (swelling is still going down in center macula--presently 308 ish on OCT).   The Vitrectomy surgery induced a 3+ Cataract, which now puts that eye at 20/400.    My other eye still great at 20/20 with just "readers", so will leave that one alone for years.

#1)  I am now doing my research on "refractive targets with IOL",  etc..  My good eye is a +1 Diopter, and the Cataract surgeon says he has a choice to target either -.25 or -.60 with the IOL in my cataract eye.  With the margin of error with the "target", any advice on which one to go with ?

I don't mind wearing readers, but I waterski, do photography, etc. and am a healthy active 57 year old.

#2) I know that I will be getting Cataract surgery sometime soon, but I was wondering if anyone knew of any new lens or surgery technique advances that might make it worth waiting several more months for ?

The newest advance in cataract surgery is the use of the Femtosecond laser to make the cataract incision, LRIs, capsulorhexis and fragmentation of the nucleus of the lens.  LenSx.

You might find a surgeon in your area using the laser.

Thank you Dr. O...any suggestions on the target choice between the -.25 and -.60 with the good eye being a +1 Diopter (leaving that eye alone). ?
I am active and don't mind continuing to wear reading glasses.

Any advice would be appreciated as I am on the fence.  To my understanding if there is a margin of error for target of .5 either way...then in theory a -.25 could put me as a +.25 right ?  And, I was told that it is not good to end up in the + catagory???
