Cataracts/Tecnis surgery

I was diagnosed with cataracts in both my eyes. After discussing it with my doctor we agreed to replace the defective lenses with Tecnis Multifocal lenses. The cost of the cataract surgery is covered by my insurance. I am being charged $2400 / eye for the Tecnis Multifocal lenses. MY QUESTION: If the operation for my cataract is covered by my insurance, do the lenses alone cost $2400 each above the surgery? Thank You

A good multifocal--in the right patient--is just amazing, isn't it?  I never, ever thought I'd be able to see like a young person again, but that's what's happening.

Hi potato,
Are you having the second eye done soon, or waiting until a cataract develops?  Just wanted to say if you have the same results with the second eye, you'll REALLY flip.  Think of one eye done as ice cream, and both eyes done as triple hot fudge, nuts, and whip cream sundae!

I had the Tecnis Multifocal implanted yesterday in my right eye. I payed aprox. what you were quoted. I am overjoyed with the outcome. All ranges are good near, far and mid range.I can read the newspaper with the right eye without glasses, haven't been able to do that in 30 yrs. I feel money well spent.
I know everyone is different but good luck to you.

You need to discuss this with your surgeon.  Usually part of the extra fee is for the IOL and the rest for additional tests needed for a good result without glasses and may include a LRI to control astigmatism and possible laser enhancement.
