Conjuctivitis or episcleritis?

Hello,

For the last 2 months, I have red eyes that feel sore, there is some tearing, only very slightly increased other discharge, no tenderness/pain or light sensitivity. At the beginning of the problem I went to an eye specialist, who examined me with the light and said it's conjuctivitis (I have got that in the past in the form of allergy, almost exclusively during the summertime though). He gave me Tobradex (10 days) and Opatanol which I took for approximately 20 days. The problem never really went away during the process, was only mildly reduced at some point but came back. Now it's getting worse again.

I understand there are similar symptoms with episcleritis, which got me worried as I also read it is associated with inflammatory bowel disease, and I have some mild relevant symptoms. Is there a case that the eye specialist may have misdiagnosed episcleritis, for conjuctivitis? Should I ask for a second opinion?

Thank you so much in advance.

Episcleritis is usually unilateral.  You probably have some other condition.  See an EyeMD.

One additional symptom that I forgot to mention: In the morning my eyes are very sticky and difficult to open, but I have the feeling it is because they are completely dry, not because of sticky discharge. I could be wrong in that though, it is hard to tell.
