Cortisone induced cataracts

My husband was treated with cortisone injections for herniated discs.  He was later diagnosed with bilateral cataracts for which he had corrective surgery.  His ortho is now recommending more cortisone injections.  I understand cataracts cannot return once surgically removed, but can new cataracts develop from subsequent cortisone treatments?

Hi Dr. Oyakawa
I am in my 3rd year of medical school and I was wondering the mechanism of action of steroid injections in the eyelid causing cataracts. It is not an osmotic agent so why does that occur?
thanks so much.

After my husband had his cataract surgery, he developed glaucoma.  He now needs laser surgery to correct this, since the meds aren't improving his condition.  Is glaucoma a common side effect of cataract surgery?

I don't think so.If I'm not mistaken the crystaline is taken  away and replaced by artificial lens so those new lens cannot be affected by medicine cause they are not natural tissue
