Different Size Pupils

Hi All.

About 5 months ago doctor found I had optic disk cupping. After an exam with the optemetrist this turned out to be normal. My disks ar enice and sharp around the edges.

Recently, I am not sure if I have had this all my life, but I noticed in dim light I get different pupil sizes. I checked this morning when I woke up and they was fine. I checked again about 10 minutes ago and both where large, due to the light in the room, but the eye with Astigmatism was slightly bigger.

I seen my doctor about this because I was concerned. He checked my optic disks and said they still look fine. I have had my IOP done and that was also fine.

I am 24 and have been a heavy computer user (due to my work) for a long time. Doctor said alot of factors could contribute to it, including stress.

I have no vision problems, apart from Astigmatism which I should wear glasses for, although I don't wear them as my vision is perfect with both eyes open. My pupils are not always different sizes, sometimes they are normal, and then an hour later they could be different.

I just wind myself up all the time, as I have anxiety, which makes every problem in my body some serious problem.

No relation but recognizing your alcohol abuse (which can easily slide in to alcoholism) is a good start to stopping it. Maybe you ought to discuss this on the Alcoholism Forum

Also is there any relation to my problem and Alcohol abuse? I have been drinking 4 cans of lager a night on average for the past few years.

They do move, and react to light, they both do. If I close both eyes and open them they resize. The majority of the time they are the same size.

Not sure if my Optemetrist or Dr. will forward me to an MD as they both can't see any problems. Dr. noticed the difference in his dim office, but he said they react as they should and there is nothing wrong inside my eye.

There is no relationship of pupil size and optic nerve cupping. Your pupils are constantly changing in size. In a young person they are often never still and constantly move  a little (hippus).

See an eye MD ophthalmologist and discuss your concerns. Have the Eye MD see you BEFORE any drops are put in your eye.

Stop obscessing on this in the meantime.

Sorry, also forgot to add.

If I place a mirror infront of a window and check my pupils, they are the same size. If I go to the mirror on the wall (where light is a little dimmer), my left eye is closest to the window and my right eye is away from it. This is when I notice they are different sizes. My right eye is the one thats a little bigger.

Forgot to add that I used over the counter moisturising eye drops for about a month and a half to relieve dry eyes. I have stopped using them about 2 weeks ago as I no longer get dry eyes.
