Do I need retina hole repair?

Dr. Hagan  I am a 61 year old male...For several years I have had several really tiny holes in the bottom of my retina...on Wednesday opthamologist confirmed holes are still there
a week ago today I had flashing arcs on the left side of my left eye...and a fairly large floater appeared at the same time flashing lasted a couple of days but is now gone...still have Floater but near as bad...will these holes heal themselves or is there reason for concern?

To answer your question it would be necessary to look in your eyes and see what the holes look like.  A relatively large number of people have small, round holes that have no vitreous traction and do not require treatment or cause problems. This is especially true when they are on the bottom of the retina.  This does not mean that you could not develop a troublesome hole/tear (horseshoe tear) that does require treatment. Hopefully you are under the care of an Eye MD ophthalmologist and not a non-physician optometrist.  You can discuss your concerns with your Eye MD next visit.  If you develop new flashing, new floaters or loss of peripheral vision get in to your eye MD immediately.
