Excesstive Tearing

My eyes are still tearing alot.  So much that it appears I'm crying.  My opthamologist put me on an antibiotic and the redness and itching went away, but my eyes still tear.  I do have cataracts.  My Optha. doctor had pics taken of the inside of my eyes and said all looks well, but that it does seem like my eyes are reacting to something.  I haven't been taking any eyedrops, she stopped everything, all drops.  I am no longer on antiobiotic drops (Tobramycin)  Could it be possible that I'm allergic to this form of antiobiotic drops, and if so, why isn't a tear culture done.  Where can I go to have this done.  If I bring it up, it appears to the doctor that I am trying to tell them how to do their job.  It's been two weeks and they are still tearing more than ever.  What could possibly be causing this?  Has anyone else experienced this?  If your a eye doctor and reading this, what would you suggest.  I'm really tired of the "Go back to your eye doctor...I've been to two doctors and it's a "Your eyes are fine...see you in six months".  These are my eyes that I'm worried about and I feel I need to be listened to and to be taken better care of.

I am experiencing the same problem you have had with excessive tears.  Started with pink eye in both eyes with tears.  My opthamologist prescribed Tobramycin.  Didn't relieve the pink eye or excessive tears.  Now I am putting Vigamox followed by Prednisolone drops.  My pink eye appears to be gone, but not the tears.  So, if after your long battle with this, have you found the answers you've been looking for?  Are your eyes back to normal?  And could you tell me your outcome?  Did a Doctor finally test your tears?  I appreciate any feedback you might give.  Cheri

Has your eye problem gotten better? I've been dealing with my right eye doing same thing since May 2010. I've been to two Wolf Eye Clinics, an allergist, (2) ENT's (one in Ia. City) and my local eye dr. Have tried Tobradex, Vigamox, Alrex, Pataday, oral doxycycline. Still no help, right now with sinusitus, I'm worse than ever, now they want me to see a neurologist. I guess I've about exhausted everyone else. I have discontinued by contact lens use for the last 4 mos. I have had glaucoma for 16 years. Please let me know your status or anything you've found helpful, I would appreciate!! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your reply.  Boy, do I wish I had a doctor like you here where I live.  I've been to two Opthmalogists and they were both saying it is an allergy.  I told my eye doctor that I could feel a little bump under my left upper eyelid, she tried to feel for it and looked but didn't see anything.  This left eye is the culprit of all the trouble.  All the itching and infections start in that eye.  Although, this bump doesnn't hurt, I can still feel it there.  It has got smaller in the past few weeks.  I think it is something up there crfeating all of this.  How do I get my eye doctors to take a good look at this.  Apparently, it can't be seen with the naked eye.  It's not a bump on the eye itself, but in the upper-outer part of the under the upper lid.  I know my eye doctor is getting frustrated over all this and seemed very tense when she saw me the last visit.  When she sat down, instead of placing whatever she had in her hand, she threw it across her desk.  I'm afraid to even talk to her about this again.  I didn't expect her to act like this.  I'm the patient having to deal with this problem and she's not getting to the bottom of it all.  What would you do?

You may have a blocked tear drainage duct or some other condition causing excess tearing such as lid or corneal problem.  See you doctor so he can eliminate one thing at a time.
