Ghost images with new glasses

Ghost images with new glasses

Hi,

I recently bought new glasses and have been suffering from ghost imaging in my right eye at night and in dark rooms. I see a ghost of anything bright on a dark background (car headlights, streetlights, TV images, etc) immediately below the actual object.

I went back to my optician, who performed a retest and told me they had my astigmatism incorrect. They remade my glasses, however I am getting the same problem (originally the ghost image was to the bottom right, and now its just to the bottom).

During the day I don't have any problems at all, but I can't watch TV at all now once the sun has gone down as I get a headache and the ghosting is really annoying. If I squint, the ghosting goes away totally (but not really a long term solution).

My optician now says that this is a result of the lens having a high refractive index, and nothing can be done.

I'm not convinced that my optician is correct. Could anyone shed any light on this?

I'm short sighted, with a 4.5 correction in the right eye and 3.75 in the left. Not immediately sure of my astigmatism now - but I suspect that the optician has got it wrong (again).

These are some causes:  wrong prescription, manufacturing problems, optical abberations from the lens, eye disease such as cataracts or corneal irregular astigmatism.
