Half oval ring imprint in vision.

Around 3 days ago I began noticing this visual distortion in my left eye specifically. When paying closer attention to it, I noticed its in the shape of an arch, or half oval, curving in the shape a rainbow would take. I notice it most when I blink, appearing like an imprint in my vision - similar to if i had just had something bright flash in my vision. I went to the optometrist, and my eye health appeared normal.
I reported i had done a heavy squat weight training session the same night it happened, within the hour of the workout ending. The optometrist believed this could be the cause. But I wondered how it could if, upon inspection of my eye, nothing appeared out of order. Wondering if anyone has had anything similar or information of what could be causing it.

This symptom is concerning and you should consider seeing a higher trained physician (Ophthalmologist). Given how long it takes many places to get in to see an ophthalmologist, I would emphasize when you call this is NEW PROBLEM, and you need to be seen as soon as possible. While this does not mean it is serious, there are some serious things that could cause that such as a small retinal artery or vein occlusion, a problem called central serous retinopathy. If you live in a major metropolitan area then you might be able to call a groupf of Retina and Vitreous Specialists.  Those types of offices are usually set up to see acute problems same or next day.   There are some special tests you need also including one called OCT.  My advice would be to start working on an ophthalmologist seeing you as soon as you read this.

When I had retinal symptoms 8 years ago I first went to my long-term optometrist, given that at that time I had not yet ever seen an ophthalmologist. Fortunately his office had an OCT, and upon his reviewing  the results I was referred to and seen by a retinal specialist that same day. I agree completely with the advice given by Dr. Hagan.
Happy Labor Day Mr P
Thanks Dr. Hagan, although I must forward the true recognition of Labor Day on to those still working for our economic well-being. Happy to say I’m retired now at 67 and every day is a holiday.
I will be working clinically for about one more month, then retire from seeing patients to being full time editor of Missouri Medicine medical journal   LINK  https://www.msma.org/Missouri-Medicine-Library
Enjoy, and being full time editor will allow for your accumulated medical expertise to continue to be put to good use.
