Health of Retina

Hi Dr.

i have floaters from last two years and i do regular eye exam with Eye MD. recetly i went to see a retinal specialist and after dilation she used different kind of lens and one of them on on my eye ( not sure what it called. She said she can see my retina well with this).  After this test she told me your retina health is good. It is not thin in any place.

Does it mean that a retinal specialist can see probalility of retinal tear or detachment ( can see health of Retina)?  What was the instrument she used on my eye? ( Afte the test she had to wash my eye)

Is  there anything i can do to prevent retinal tear or detachment? My age is 30. Is is possible that Eye MD can miss any retinal problem if i have?

My own eye MD in each visit dilute my eye and does the exam and also use optomap to take a picture in her compuer and next time compare with new pic . What is this optomap?

Thnaks a lot for your help.

Lots of things doctors do to patients are uncomfortable. Damage to eye possiblity is remote.

Thanks a lot for your help.

But after using the lens (mirrored goniolens) i have some scratchy feeling in my eye and sometimes i feel little pain also ( like something sharp touching my eye). It was not a comfortable test. Does it damage the eye?  Is there is way i can reduce scratchy feeling in my eye

Thanks

The instrument is a "mirrored goniolens" and is used to check parts of the eye that are otherwise difficult to see.

You can protect your eye from injury (sports, work,) with proper protection, see Eye MD yearly.

The otomap is a laser scanner of the back of the eye. Paste the below address in your browser
