Dr Hagan,
Thank you for your common sense answers. I am 52 and have seen a substantial increase in floaters in the last six months. Which by the way, is freaking me out. I visted with eye doctor and she said everything was okay. Yes, you are right, the more you fixate on them the more you see them. I will keep my fingers crossed for medicine in the next 5 - 10 years. I have about ten of them and they are very distracting.
Computers, smart phones, iPads/tablets, video games do not cause floaters. However using these devices makes the floaters already in the eye more visible and many people become aware of their floaters while doing these activities.
The only way that good night sleep will help floaters is that it helps reduce the anxiety some people feel about their floaters and during sleep the floaters may settle down in the eye and be less noticeable. However many people are just the opposite and they notice floaters early in the morning after they get out of bed and after they are upright for an hour or two the floaters settle to the bottom of the and are not as noticeable.

Floaters are more and more common at this time because everyone spends most of his time in front of a tv or a computer. I had them for 2 years now and from my experience i can tell that the only way to stabilize them is to live a healthy life and have a good sleep every night. Being in collage often gave me a hard time because the night parties with classes in the morning made me anxious and angry(had a hard time focusing on the teachers). On short , wear protection glasses in the day and make a habit of living a healthy life.
If it gets pretty ugly real fast you should visit a doctor cause it might be something more severe happening to your eyes.
I have he same problem. It started 2 months ago with a small one. Now is increasing every day, and specially there are one transparent that blur my vision. I visited 3 ofthalmologists and they told me there is nothing to do. I'm 40 years old from Mexico
I am a 27 years old student from Nigeria and I have got lots and lots of floaters in my both eyes. It alway keeps me depressed each time I try to walk under the sunlight. Am just worried on how the status of my vision is gonna look like in the next 10-15 years of my life because it keeps increasing in numbers.
It appears like clouds in my both side of vision with lots of dark spots all over it looking like vapour.
My fear is that it might cover the field of my vision in years to come.
Am so much down casted each time I walk under a bright sunlight. It's really really annoying.... Gosh!!
