IOL moved too far forward in the few days following cataract op.

To : rossagrant
I read your post (from last year) today. I believe our problems are similar.  My doctor explained at four week exam, my Iol had moved forward, from too much contraction. I went from 20/25 day after surgery to 20/60 at one week exam, then 20/80 at four weeks. He recommends exchange, piggyback or laser correction. All three options sound like more risk than I want to take. At this point I have a somewhat extreme version of monovision. Vision is satisfactory.....except I'm light headed from too much diopter difference.....3 1/4.  At this point I'm not sure what my decision will be.....I'm leaning towards leaving as is.......I'll experiment with contact or glasses to control balance.

I also am having the "fluke" vision changes ....I noticed this morning, I could see as clearly with the IOL eye
as my farsighted (+1) eye. Didn't last all day though......I'm expecting my doctor won't believe me......What did you learn about your vision changes? Did you have  addition procedures? If so, what was the outcome? Any information you offer will be greatly appreciated......

A difference of 3+ diopters (called "aniseikonia") will produce symptoms (e.g., headaches, dizziness, photophobia, spatial disorientation, double vision, nausea, impaired depth perception) in almost all people.  Available research suggests that people cannot adapt over time.  Possible treatments are contact lens wear or specially-designed isokonic glasses.

I have aneiskonia due to a damaged retina.  I'd definitely recommend that you pursue one of the three remedies suggested by your doctor.  (Laser correction might be safest.)  In your place, there's no way I'd leave things as they currently are for you.  You will face a lifetime of unpleasant symptoms.
