Kerotoconus

I am 32 years old and I have keratoconus. I discovered this about 3 years ago. I have tried the gas permeable contacts lense but I could not get used to it as it is hard and I keep getting red eyed and teary eyes.

Glasses does not seems to work as I keep seeing a reflections of the objects especially lights just below the original objects. I realize that my vision is most noticeably bad in night and whenever there is less light.
Furthermore, the power for the glasses seems to change often especially my left vision. My last power for the glasses early this year is as follows:

Right : -050/-350
Left  : -275/-500

I am really worried and I don't really know what can be done as I realize my vision is noticeable bad at night and whenever there is less light.

a) I have read in the internet that there is a gas permeable contact lenses that are softer that the normal ones. Is this true ? Will this help ?
b) What are my options in long term ?

Appreciate help as I really worried.

Thanks in advance.

I think that SynergEyes is the brand of contact lenses you were referring to.  They are hard lenses in the center with a soft lens "skirt."  They are supposed to be more comfortable than conventional GP contacts, and they can correct astigmatism.  I don't know whether they would work for you, and I don't know anyone who has tried them.  You can read about them online.

There is a new experimental treatment for k conus called cross linking. It has been discussed here and also on the internet. I can't tell if your cornea is too far gone for treatment.

You may need to see a highly specialized contact lens fitter either Eye MD or optom that does toric and bi toric contact fitting for k conus.
