Dear Doctor,

On 17.10.2009, while riding a bike, my wife met with an accident. No brain damage. No fractures. But a lot of soft tissue contusion. From that day, her right eye is rotating. It is moving up, down, and towards the nose. But it is not moving to the right side. Is there any cure doctor? Pl.help me.

Thanks and Regards,

The most common cause of this is congenital esotrophia. It does not respond to patching and surgery is generally done between ages 6 months and 1 year.

Other causes are far less likely but would require a real in person exam to diagnose.    Be sure she is seeing an ophthalmologist that does pediatric strabismus surgery

Your child will need to be followed by the eye surgeon until she is an adult and even then she will need a yearly exam and her eyes may change throughout her life.  There is no way to predict how the eye will move in the next week or the next month or the next year. So the answer is neither your eye surgeon nor me can give you a definitive answer.

Also we cannot communicate with people by e mail or review individual records as this is prohibited by MedHelp.org

Hai sir,
My three month old baby girl have an eye problem noticed within two weeks...her right eye is not moving to her nose side...Doctor suggested us patching for two months from her second month onwards and then review...my question is doctor is it curable through patching alone or surgery needed..if its curable through patching how long we have to wait..

Thanking you

The problem is called strabismus (eye muscle problem). It is highly unlikely that it was caused by birth injury. About one out of 50 infants have eye muscle problems. The eye muscles are well protected from forceps and other instruments used in childbirth.

However some people prefer to think that they were born perfect and the "doctor did it".

Having said that she needs to see an Eye MD ophthalmologist that specializes in pediatric ophthalmology (often called a pediatric ophthalmologist). One connected with a medical school would be ideal.  Exercises and glasses don't help this type of problem.

TARUN: You have traumatic strabismus likely a 4th or 6th cranial nerve injury. These are very difficult to fix. See the same type of ophthalmologist I recommended for Diklu above.

Your wife may have a blow out of the orbital floor, may have a traumatic ocular muscle paresis. She should see an ophthalmologist, ideally a eye muscle (strabismus) subspecialist. A medical school would be a good place to go.
