Lost sight to right eye due to trauma

My son had an accident at age 5 which lost him the lens in his right eye, pupil damage and damaged iris. He is now 12 and I would like to know where I can find quality surgery for my son to return the vision in his right eye, repair his iris and if his pupil can be repaired as well.

Best of luck and do remember to protect you son's good eye from another injury by proper eye protection and a careful selection of sports and activities with a low to no risk of eye injury.  JCH MD

Please find a short article about 3/4 of the way down the page regarding the Swiss Advanced Vision's new instant focus IOL.

CRST today is not a peer reviewed journal. An associate of mine is a previous editor. The Swiss are not especially known for either advances in ophthalmology or IOL technology. What you read is a press release by their PR department.

If the capsular sack in my son's eye were to be damaged as well, can an IOL still be implanted?

I did not realize your son was wearing a contact lens. If he does not have double vision with the contact in the likelihood of double vision post op is small but not zero.  Yes even if the sack was damaged a posterior chamber IOL can usually be sewn through the sclera.

From the time of the incident we have been making regular visits to the Singapore National Eye center. They have provided a special contact lens that my son has to wear for 4-8 hours a day. The lens is replaced yearly with a new one as his eye has grown.
As I've said before, I am willing to travel anywhere I can where good medical care can be provided for my son. If it means we need to travel to the States or Europe that isn't a problem.
If he did have double vision, would this not just be temporary?

I'm sorry but I am not familiar with ophthalmic resources in your area of the world.  There are all types of problems that would require ongoing access to a pediatric ophthalmology tertiary referral center. If you put and IOL in the eye and try and reconstruct the iris he may have double vision because he has not been binocular vision for 7 years.
