Migraines start behind left eye

I have had trouble with this for 3+ years.  I have pain that starts behind my left eye, the eye hurts when moving and progressively gets worse as time goes by.  I also have a slight electrical pain at my hairline above my left eye, I have had that for about a year.  I don't feel it unless I touch it - sometimes more painful and othe times. I have been seen by an eye dr. last year and my eye was healthy.  I have been seeing an ent and have had deviated septum surgery a month ago.  I am currently taking Nasacort nasal spray daily to figure out if that will help my allergies and maybe stop the headaches.  He says that if that doesn't work, he wants to do allergy testing next. My medical dr. says that I have migraines and she prescribed Maxalt, which is the only thing that stops the pain.  I been taking Maxalt for 2 years now.  I have gone 2 months without headaches, but normally I have one or more per week.  Is it safe to take Maxalt that often?  Do you have any idea what is causing the pain?

I do not use Maxalt in my practice so cannot comment. I would suggest seeing a neurologist. If its miagraine they are the experts. It could also be cluster headaches or a facial neuraligia. Your FP or GP can probably refer you to a good neurologist.

Hi Gail been there, did that. If your tests turn out OK, Well I had pinched nerve in the neck, plus, However I got relief from various meds, nerve pain, zoloft, cymbalta. imitrex for worse migraine. But to get off meds, I went to pain management doctor, who used botox for trigger points. I had pain to touch areas. I also treat with chiropractor.
Botox worked pretty good, and some insurances cover it. Although my neurologist just prescribed meds, and the nerve rehab doctor only prescribed meds. I tuned into my body, and established what was nerve pain, versus muscle pain, and bone pain, . Botox worked on nerve, touch, like black and blue to touch pain. Good luck, just from 14 years experince. After botox, 2 years of injections, now off meds !!!
