My eye is swollen shut

My eye is swollen  shut & it's painful. At night the eye drains. My eyelids are purple. This happens  to me every couple of months. Only in my right eye

Dr. Hagan, would you, as a physician, find it useful if a patient had some photos of this on his iphone, in case on the day of the appointment, the eye in question woke up normal?

Yes that would be extremely helpful to take pictures.  If the problem is mainly or exclusively on awakening or if you awaken with pain and swelling the problem could be recurrent corneal erosions due to exposure keratitis.  You might read this and see if it 'fits"   http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/1648138/General-Information-About-Recurrent-Corneal-Erosions  ;
