Myopia and pregnant

Hi I am 29 years old, and i am near sighted, i am -7 in right eye and -6.5 in left eye. I am 14 weeks pregnant and i am very much concerned to know whether i can go for natural vaginal birth or i need a C section because of my high power... My power has almost remained same from when i was 15 years of age.... I am using glasses all these years and comfortable with it, occasionally i use O2 optix contact lenses and i am comfortable with those too... One more thing i am noticing these days after becoming pregnant i am able to sense few eye floaters in both eyes, is this of concern? I am not having any head ache or any other problem but these eye floaters are irritating... Please give me some suggestions regarding how to proceed with eye floaters and also about my type of my baby's birth has anything to with my myopic eyes.....Please help me with some suggestions.....

I mostly here that myopia stop increasing at 25, 26, 27, or 30. If myopia and astigma never stop increasing. How can we perform LASIK?

1. Quit worrying about your glasses. It won't damage your eye.
2. Eye strain and astigmatism not cause floaters.
3. People who are not myopic or who do not need glasses or who are farsighted also have floaters but floaters less common in this group. Move on and quit worrying about the floaters you have now. I've taken this conversation thread about as far as I can and you're asking the same questions.  JCH MD

About myopia check. I'm worry if the degree of glasses over my real power degree that can be cause of my eyes strain to prolong. Because I check it before delivery. Opticin gave me -5.75 and -5.50 without astigma included. For floater before I have it some and short Tim. Now Floaters just start when I have eye strain. Is it possible cause by eye strain or astigma? Or just myopia? Can floaters appear more cos I have high myopia?

1. No special care for eyes after the baby comes; take care of the baby 2. No one can predict when myopia "stops' 3. Same with astigmatism which is not a disease 4 floaters are more common in myopes 5. Asian eyes are difficult to determine squint (strabismus) because of the inner eyelid structure (epicanthal fold)   So an exam by an ophthalmologist or optometrist would be necessary. JCH MD

My eye dr. Cannot tell me exactly about this too. At the moment I visited his clinic and took off my glasses, he said just a bit squirt. When I back home, and send him this picture he said it back to normal maybe sometimes. When I ask other 2eyes doctors by these photos. I got 2answer. 1 is normal since reflection of the eyes are in centered. Another doctor said " appearent squint." I didn't know what he really me.
Can u give some comment Dr,?

I didn't start wearing glasses till I was a 3rd year medical student (age 25)  my RX is about -3.00 with 1.5 D of astigmatism. Some of the increase of myopia during pregnancy is reversible and goes away after delivery.   JCH MD

I also wonder since some web sites said during 3rd trimester of pregnancy and 3 to 6 months Or nursery, the eye conditions may change. Sometime it stays still or sometime it change back, is it real? For ex: power degree of myopia can change too. So, during this time, shouldn't change new glasses.

1. Almost 100% of people your age and your glasses RX have floaters.  Floaters that appear slowly are part of the aging process and don't have a bad prognosis. Sudden appearance of many small black floaters, flashes of light can signal a retinal tear.
2. Live a healthy life, protect your eyes from injuries. see an ophthalmologist yearly and the chances you'll have good vision all your life are 99+%

1. Nothing that is safe and practicle
2. None
3. That question has been debated for 60 years or more.  Current belief is prolonged near work is a factor in the development or progression of myopia. However it would not cause the amount of myopia you have nor do you need to give up computer and near work.

You child will be at increased risk but there is no way to give you the exact  % risk the child will face. Depends on the father's history, birthweight,  genetic make up of the parents.

Generally vaginal birth is not a problem for the eyes even in moderate or high myopes. The main factor for your child being myopic would be prematurity  and low birth weight.  Discuss this with your ophthalmologist

Rarely is vaginal birth a problem for moderate high myopes. There is nothing about your diet or delivery that would increase the chance of myopia other than low birth weight and incubator use.

You need to discuss this also with your ophthalmologist  Good luck
