Near vision worsen after implant

I just had a cataract surgery with monofocal implant.  After the surgery my far vision has improved tremendously.  However, my near vision has worsen than before the surgery....  Is this normal?

My eyesight has not been good since childhood.  I have been wearing glasses since 5 yrs old.  Besides, having far & near vision impaired I also have astigmatism.

This is normal for a monofocal implant.  A multifocal or accommodating IOL would have given you some near vision.

Thank you for your reply.  I was advised should I have chosen a multifocal implant I would probably see 'halos' which is not a very good option.  Why so?
