Pain and pressure behind/beside eye

I have been having a pain in my left eye for a while. I saw an eye doctor about it but he couldn't figure it out. It started with the left side of my eye. The pain occurs before I even touch my eye. All I have to do is get near my eye or touch my eye lashes. It feels like its a pain and pressure coming from behind and/or beside my eye. I don't have a stye. Now the pain is on the right side too. I've tried to be as descriptive as possible. I have searched all over the net and can't find anything that fits my symptoms.

I would ask your personal physician (GP, FP, Internist) to refer you. You would have to check with your insurance plan to see if you can do self referral.

I saw an MD physician Opthalmologist, two in fact. How do I go about seeing a neurologist for this? Do I see my doctor first and get a referral? I considered having an MRI done to see if anything came up.

If your "eye doctor" was a MD physician Ophthalmologist then you had a good examination of your eye and you should see a neurologist to make sure you do not have a facial neuralgia syndrome.

If your "eye doctor" was a non-MD, non-physician, limited training optometrist  then you did not have a comprehensive medical eye examination and you should start with a Eye MD. Find one near you at www.aao.org
