Playing Badminton for Extreme Myopia Person?

Hi Doctor,
I am a 24 years old male with -10 myopia each eye.

I would like to know if playing badminton is safe for me? Would it lead to retinal detachment/tear?

Cause my friend told me that it isn't.

Thanks a lot!!!

jumping, bending, running will not significantly increase the risk. Only getting hit in the eye with the racquet or shuttlecock would.

Thanks for the reply Doctor Hagan.

So that means jumping wouldn't increase the risk of retinal detachment??
And what about bending (when picking up the shuttlecocks)?

Thank you very much!!!

If you wear proper eye protective sports goggles the chance of injury is minimal.  You need full protective eye wear not glasses. On Today's Pulse on this page click on the blue dots till you get the article by Dr. Kutryb on preventing eye injuries.
