flashes of light in my right eye peripheral.

excuse my english if theres an grammatical error cause english is not my 1st language :)

i'm 21 years old and i'm not really active this days.

hi sir please i need more expert advise i'm from philippines and i'm having this weird light in my right eye to the right side its like when you put pressure to the left eye there's a white that will appear because of pressure, but there's no pressure to my left eye at all but this light keeps appearing for like 5 days now. though do you think i might have damage it because sometimes i rub my eyes because of itchyness. so i have been to an eye doctor and he checked my retina and he said my retina is okay though apart from that i have a very dry eyes so he gave me some drops that i would use 4 times a day...he said it might be due to blood circulation that i'm having this flashes of light..but i'm really scared i read about this flashes of light usually occurs when your having retinal detachment or tear. he want me to send to an eye test where they would picture the inside of my eyes to check if the blood circulation is wrong or if there is something wrong...but he said to me he's very sure its negative. sad to say i can't go to this test because i dont know how much it would cost and my father is still going to the hospital because of his diabetes and highblood. and i dont want to get in the way of his medications. but i'm really scared right now i just want this flashes of light to disappear and i dont want to go blind please help...

At your age the incidence of retinal detachment is very low perhaps one in 7,000       If the "eye doctor" that saw you was a non-MD optometrist then see an Eye MD ophthalmologist. Your family MD can refer you. If you did see an eye MD then call their office for advice, a repeat exam might be in order. We cannot make or exclude a retinal detachment diagnosis over the internet.

thanks for the reply sir. yes i did see an Eye MD he's name have an MD.

i experience flashes without putting pressure on my eye and i still have it right now. i don't know though if i have PVD or not. i read about it and there's a chance that i can have retinal detachment or tear? correct me if i'm wrong. and about 6 weeks? i'm really afraid now. what kind of symptoms should appear if i would have retinal detachment/tear?

If you do not see this light unless you push on your eye then its not a problem and you need to stop pushing on your eye. You can create a "light" in the eye with pressure and its called a "pressure phosphene' and its a form of entopic phenomena.

If you experience light flashes without pressure the most common cause is vitreous traction or posterior vitreous detachment (PVD). Use the search feature and archives to read about.

If you do have a PVD then the "eye doctor" you should have seen is an Eye MD ophthalmologist, not a non MD optometrist. The Ophthalmologist will have a MD after his/her name and will have been to medical school and has much more training.

If you did see an eye MD relax and if something changes dramatically return to the Eye MD. It's not likely that you need any more expensive tests.
