Red Floaters ?

My 7 year old son is reporting seeing a large red spot ( translucent ) in the vision of his left eye. From his description I'd say it covers maybe 1/4 of the vision field, and moves around. He's going to see the eye doctor, but of course that won't be for a few days.  Any ideas what it is ?

Although I no longer do pediatrics for many years I had a large pediatric practice. I have always felt that evaluating kids even teenagers is an art in and of itself. It is often hard to differentiate between over active imaginations, attempts to deceive or manipulate, fear, and intimiation by the medical venue.    Because working up a lot of these complaints in an adult would require CT scans, MRI,  neurology consults etc.

Good call - neither did the eye doctor who saw him today. ( We caught a cancellation) Nothing physically wrong and 20/20. It is a bit strange as he has been mentioning it for a few days and when asked "which eye" he does a "one eye cover-up" check and consistently calls the left. He will also report if it's not there - usually at night.
