Retina Detachment

Our 19-month-old needs surgery for a complete retinal detachment.  Are there any retina specialists in Maryland that specialize in pediatrics, particularly in babies?

Wilmer Eye Institute at Hopkins in Baltimore is the gold standard in ophthalmology.  There is nowhere better.

You are fortunate to be near them and the whole of Hopkins, frankly.  My husband, a general ophthalmologist, sends patients back East to Wilmer (we are in San Francisco) and also sent my best friend to Wilmer to (successfully) save her eye when many of the other top-notch eye institutes were dumbfounded and unhelpful.

There will be an excellent retinologist, or two, who has done ped. retina surgery.  You will be in outstanding hands.  You may (or may not) encounter a little arrogance, but who cares, frankly--your goal is a successful outcome.

Best of luck!

That was dumb. You have a great eye center in Maryland at John's Hopkins. Take advantage of it.

Also, I don't know the DC area that well, but you might consider going to a premier eye institute. I think the closest to you would be wills eye in Philly.

Good luck and god bless.
