bungee cord to the eye

My husband was hit in the left eye with a bungee cord (not the plastic ones, the metal ones with the coil just before the hook starts).  We have been to one specialist and he told us that he bruised the cornea and the retina right in the middle.  He told us that the vision may or may not come back. He leaned more to it not coming back.  My question is does anyone know if there is a surgery procedure that can correct this?  Do you recommend that we get another opinion?  Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I would wait a few months.  Fixing the cornea will not help if the retina is damaged.

If his vision does not improve would it be a wise choice to try and have surgery done on the cornea or would that not really fix any of the problem? What surgery can be done for the cornea and do you have an idea of what it might cost. I greatly appreciate your help.

The cornea can be repaired, but not the retina.
