Retinitis Pigmentosa

By intense and prolonged exposure to UV light, I mean 3yrs continuous at sea where sunlight is direct and reflected. Clearly cornea/lens does not filter adequately.

UV light can damage the outside and inside of the eye and eyelids with prolonged exposure but it doesn't cause RP.     RP however may get worse with long UV exposure.

Wear a cap and uv filtered sunglasses next time. And sunblock lotion. Prolonged uv exposure is not good for the unprotected eyes nor the body.
