White spot

So a few years ago I noticed a white spot on my tear line, I thought at first it was a sty, but it didn't itch or go away, then I thought as it got a little bigger that it was a zit, but it never went away.  It was there for about four years, then one day, the white spot fell off, leaving an obvious "crater" it started to hurt like a bruise and got worse for a few days and then one day it swelled and was very tender to touch.  I looked at it in the mirror and noticed a bulge in it, I applied some pressure to it and some pus and a "thing" came out.  The "thing" was round, but not like a ball, like a disc, but it was filled with liquid, so when I squeezed it between my fingers (free of my eye) it popped.  what is this thing and why did it last so long and is it over?

The most common thing that might cause that is a plugged meibomian gland.  Use the search feature and read about blepharitis. Good lid hygeine will often prevent these from developing.
