Side Effects of silicon Oil in the eye

Dear Dr/prof,
My young brother (11years old) had a silicon oil injected in his right eye for retinal detachment and after about 5 months he woke up in the morning seeing nothing with the same eye and his doctor didnt know the exact reason for that. And today he had the silicon oil removed and during the surgery the doctor noticed that there is fibrosis in his eye and he did clear it.
So can i know the reason of fibrosis and is it because of the silicon oil or is there other reasons and what might it be?
Is there a chance that fibrosis might redevelop??

I doubt vision will recover.  Silicone oil is used as a final effort for retinal detachment surgery, not for a primary surgery.
