Soccer injury...

Hi there,

I'm an Australian resident and stumbled across your website looking for a quick second opinion before my next appointment. I was recently in an incident where a soccer ball had hit my face and part of my right eye. I experienced temporary flashes (grey blobs) but these had subsided dramatically after a couple of hours. The grey blobs are are still there to a much lesser degree (on the bottom left corner of my right eye vision) than at the time of incidence and are more noticeable during the night. During the day there is hardly any sign of them. I went and saw an opthamologist the very next morning and he conducted an eye exam. I told him about these flashes and he said that these will disappear over time and that they are associated with the area that was affected within the eye. How long does that roughly take on average to subside? Are they permanent? He found that my retina had been shaken and that part of it had a tiny amount of bruising but just to be sure he asked me to come in a week later to see if I have any rupturing or detachment of my retina. He told me no permanent vision loss will occur. Does my case sound severe or minor? I have no central vision loss and the grey blobs are opaque (ie, I can see through them). If anyone else has had a similar case or any experiential knowledge available please let me know.

Cheers,

KPAX

There is no "average" all trauma cases are different. The person that can best advise you is the surgeon that looked in the eye.  Everyone reading this take note. Soccer, hockey, all racquet sports need to wear safety glasses/googles to prevent this type of injury.

Hi, the same exact thing just happened to me last night. Did everything turn out ok with your eye or was there a more severe problem later on down the road?
