Sudden change in vision.

I am mid thirties and have recently been sick with rubella and then viral infection.  I have been in bed for a month. I have been suffering from nauseua and dizziness.  Suddenly my eyesight has become very poor and I find myself holding books closer to my face and sitting closer to the TV. I have been seeing patches of purple.  I also have a lot of pressure and swelling around my right eye I understand that eyesight can change as you get older, but this happened in a matter of weeks.  Yesterday I saw an eye doctor and got glasses for the first time in my life and was given some creme for dry eye syndrome.  I also have a lot of pain on my right side in my arm and shoulder.  I have had trouble sleeping, even though I am exhausted.  When I do sleep it is not very restful and more like I have passed out.  Suddenly I am very content to sit very still when months ago I was always on the go.  I am actually dictating this message to a friend as I find it hard to focus on the computer for too long.  My hair has been falling out in handfuls, and I have been bruising very easily.  Lately it is really a battle for me to get my self motivated to do anything. I have been seeing a doctor regularly, but have not really made that much progress, though I trust his judgement I thought I might seek your advice.  I am very intune with my body, and have been through some times in my life, and would like to believe that this is only depression, but something is telling me that this is not simply depression.

The advice still stands. Your friend needs more help than he's getting. Keep digging looking for answers.

-Sorry, I am the friend who typed the above.  I would like to strike the sentence:  "Lately it is a battle for me to get my self motivated to do anything."  That was incorrect paraphrasing on my part.  Unfortunately this web site won't let you edit your posts.

I think you need to see an Internal Medicine or Infectious Disease specialist. It sounds like you have residual symptoms from an infectious diseasse.
