Sudden swelling under eyes

I recently started having significant under eye swelling. I've had "bags" under my eyes before, but this is different. It's more like fluid filled "sacs". My nose also looks swollen. This will reduce slightly as the day progresses, but not completely. My allergies are under control, so I am concerned. The swelling seems to blur my vision slightly and my eyes have been watering more despite having my allergies under control. Since this also appears to affect my nose, I'm not sure if I should see an ophthalmologist or an ENT. Any ideas what could be happening here? Should I be concerned?

That type of lower lid bagginess that comes on suddenly and then gets better is usually due to some sort of allergy or irritation much like a hive occurring on the skin. The causes can be extensive and difficult to pin down and include substances you face comes in contact with; systemic allergy such as hayfever; underlying sinus disease; systemic disease in which there is "water retention"; reaction to medication;

Suggest you see an ophthalmologist and your family physician.  Take along the phones before and after as they are helpful especially if not swollen at the time of the exam.
