Thanks for the information JCH MD
My 2 1/2 year old daughter started doing this as well. It began with night night eye blinking then escalated to all day blinking within 3 days from the onset. After 3 weeks she added lip smacking and lip licking that occurred only during nap/bed times. I thought that it was going to be an all day thing as the eye blinking did but so far so good. After reading tons of info from different sites, I thought that this could possibly be stressed induce facial tics. Considering that we have had MANY stressful situations in the home over the past 3 months. Such as: mommy got a job, she attends daycare 10 hours a day, my 11 year old nephew moved it and brought his ENORMOUS attitude. I believe that we all reached our breaking point! After making changessuch as behavior modification for everyone, a better approach to parenting/disciplining/communicating...and adding mor TLC. I am pleased to say that there is a huge improvement in her facial tics. Lip smacking is almost gone and eye blinking episodes are not half as bad. It took a week or so before there was an improvement. Please be patient and explore all options. Have hope! I'mkeeping my fingers crossed that things will keep improving.
Hi,
Did you ever figure out what was the problem with your son's eye blinking problem? My 19-month old son is exhibiting similar behaviour. Please advise.
My 2 yr old son has also began blinking all of the time. It just started, so we haven't had an exam done yet. Did you find out what was wrong with your son yet? Never heard of excessive blinking before.
Start out with a complete medical eye exam with a pediatric ophthalmologist. Find one at www.aao.org
It could be an eye problem or a tic/mannerism/neurologic issue.
