Torn Retina

I have a torn retina that is very bad and I  need surgery.  Should I go to just an ophthalmologist or retina specialist? I went to an ophthalmologist yesterday which was Monday and he does not seem real sure of what procedure to do and told me to come back on Wednesday. He said it badly torn and two days would not make it any worse. I live in southern Illinois and can easy travel to St.. Louis, Mo .  Please can you refer me to a good doctor. I'm really afraid of going blind and my other eye is really bad from a stroke a few years back. I need help finding the right type of doctor for this problem.

If you did not see a specialist (retinologist/vitreoretinal specialist) today, see you tomorrow a.m.! You need to act immediately. These doctors are ophthalmologists who specialize in your problem.

I wish the best for you.

I've seen the doctor recommend Washington University Ophtomology.

From what I understand time is of essence in almost all retina tears. I would call them immediately and try to go in and see a retina specialist today. Or go to another ER.

An optomologist who does not know what to do is not going to hell your cause.
