Trouble after cataract Surgery

After cataract surgery in the right eye my girlfriend experienced vision that was, as she put it, "out of focus".  3 months after the surgery, the doctor performed a laser procedure in that eye.  The result is that her vision has not improved, but, now she has the added frustration of light shooting out in all directions like a star.  The doctor proposed a second lens added to the eye.  My questions are:  Should not the doctor perform other tests before adding a second lens, and, what are the other options for correction?  Also, with a second lens, what risks or new problems might the patient come to experience?

After a successful cataract surgery, your girlfriend is supposedly to see things in focus, not the other way around. Likewise, she should see into lights without as much glare. There is a very low rate of complications after a cataract surgery. However, what she is seeing right now are floaters in her eye. These are small moving spots that move along with the movement of the eyes. These can be very alarming, especially that they develop suddenly.

I recommend you to ask for a second opinion from an eye professional to make sure that her eyes are receiving the proper treatment.
