post cateract night glare

I had cataract surgery about 3 years ago and am still unable to drive at night because of the glare and the long beams of light that extend out from any light source I see at night. I am returning to my surgeon in few weeks. I haven't seen him in over a year because when I last saw him he said nothing can be done. I have been so unhappy and confined in my life style since the cataract surgery because I can no longer drive after sun down. Is there anything  that I can ask  him or do that would help this situation? I know that right after the surgery I was told there was a fold in one lens but I have the problem in both eyes. I was also told it would improve in time but it hasn't.

This discussion is related to Nightime glare following cataract surgery.

Sorry to hear.  I have same problem (add photobia to that).  Not due to surgery, but retinal disease.

Your problem could be a clouding of the membrane that holds the IOL in place. If so a simple yag capsulotomy laser will help the problem a great deal.

or it could be the IOL itself due to a problem called dysphotopsia. use the search feature and archives to read about that.

or it could be that you have a change in glasses

or it could be that you have disease of the cornea or retina/macula

If you can't get the problem worked out with your surgeon get a second opinion
