high myopia

is there any corrective surgery for high myopia (-18) in the right eye of my 17 year old son

A third option would be to do refractive cornea surgery like PRK which might correct 8-12 diopters. The glasses would be much thinner, the vision without glasses better (but not good) and the risks less.

There are 2 methods of surgery:
Implant of an additional lens (ICL) or early cataract surgery (clear lens extraction/IOL).
Problems:
1. the myopic eye is very delicate and subject to pathological conditions/degeneration.
2. there mustn't be a big difference in vision between left and right eye. If the condition of the right eye is drastically changed the brain will have great difficulty to put the pictures of the right and the left eye together to have stereo vision.
