astigmatism

I just got my first pair of glasses, i was given a prescription because of my high astigmatism in both eye's, my prescription is -.25 nearsighted/both eyes and -1.25 astigmatism for both eyes. I was told to wear them full time, i have been wearing them full time since i got them, is it normal for my vision to be really blurry after i take them off? i cant even read my dvd cases that are like 5 feet from me with out the glasses. Also will my vision get worse now that im becoming dependent on the glasses?

Astigmatism is not a disease, it means "aspheric" and that your cornea is not round like a basketball but more curved in one direction than another. You do not have "high astigmatism" the amount you have is small to medium.

There are some things that make it impossible to answer your question. I would need to know your visual acuity without glasses in each eye and your vision with the glasses in each eye and whether you were having any symptoms before you got the glasses.  I'm assuming from your handle you are 32 years old and were born in 1984. If you were seeing well and not having any symptoms before you got the glasses people often don't need the glasses at all. If you were having trouble with your vision or eye strain and the glasses correct those symptoms then the glasses are helpful.  Regardless of whether you wear the glasses or not as you age your eyesight will fail and somewhere in your early to med 40's you will need reading glasses and as you get older bifocals.
