Thanks so much. I am considering 2 different surg's one uses the A-scan one the bath method. I thought you may have experience with both and a thought about it as you are very seasoned. With the dense cataract and the sub capsular in the eye it seemed worth asking about that.
Thx again,
Peggy
Some studies indicate it is but with improved A scan technology it usually is not necessary. Often multiple readings are taken and repeated until they give consistent results.
At this point you need to discuss with your surgeons. I have added all the information I can

I am considering the technics one pc aspheric in the L eye & am concerned about depth perception with 2 diff mfg as I know they as spherically different.
Also I am considering the non blue block Alcon the identical one to mine without blue block and was concerned that the eye may see glare in contrast to the other. I am also considering the Alcon non aspheric as when my L eye was without the cataract for 4 yrs it was comfortable vision with both eyes together.

Thank you. re the ultra sound - is it true that for a dense cataract (mine is dense & a sub capsular) thta the bath method of measuring is better than the light?

your article on pre-surgery is exceptional and explains everything. Wish i had read it before my 1st eye but I have been lucky with that one.
1. I do not have patients that complain of different types of IOL in eye related to the IOL or manufacturer, blue blocker or lens material
2. Re-read my ariticle about what to know before surgery
3. Biggest factor is skill and experience of the staff doing the pre op measurements
4. Its called intraoperative abberommetry. It's not a standard part of surgery and will likely add up to $1000 out of pocket. For most people the extra testing is not going to be worth the expense
