You do not have "monocular" double vision.  I suspect that your glasses have prism, which is eliminating your double vision.  Unfortunately, it is not possible to put prism in contact lenses.

It's possible that your double vision can be eliminated by a simple, painless outpatient procedure.  Then you could wear contact lenses.  If you're interested, you should consult an ophthalmologist who specializes in strabismus (sometimes called a pediatric ophthalmologist, but they see adults, too.)  You can find one near you by using the directory at www.aao.org.

By "monocular diplopia", do you mean that you see double with only one eye opened?  If so, you can probably find astigmatism-correcting contacts (either toric or RGP) which would work.  However, if your double vision disappears when you close one eye, then contacts won't work.

Depends on the correction and astigmatism.  See you doctor and try it in the office.  He should be able to adjust it.
