myopia

my nephew is 5 yrs old has just been diagnosed with myopia.he has -3.5 in both eyes and has big, beautiful eyes.  the doctors say its going to increase with age and may also cause blindness. surgery is possible only after the age of 21 ONLY IF IT STABILISES.
what could the possible remedies be? is their any treatment for the complete removal of the same? is it degenerative myopia and what are the chances of blindness? pls throw some light at the earliest

First it is very unlikely that if all they child has is myopia that he's going to go blind. Even patients with myopic macular degeneration that is severe are not totally blind.

We do not have good answers for keeping myopia from progressing. THings that have been tried are bifocals, atropine eye drops and bifocal, and a new experimental drop that I forgot the name of.

It is no more possible to tell how myopic the child will be when he's 21 than to know how tall he will be and what he will weigh.

Absolutely false and avoiding exdrcise will be detremental to the health (heart, lungs, blood vessels).

i read in one of the articles that physical exercise should be avoided so as to avoid any jerks on the eyes. is THT true? cuz i dnt find any relevance in it. and its degenerative myopia..

One study showed that, others have not duplicated. No one feels that childen should  be made to spend more time outdoors than is reasonable for sport and recreation.

I read that if you let children spend as much time outdoors it may minimize progression as the eyes will be trained to see far.
