pars planitis

by hallks, Apr 17, 2008 05:15PM
I took my daughter to the eye doctor today.  She has been complaining of black spots in her vision for two weeks, the main spot is getting progressivly larger. The doctor said she had pars planitis and said the white blood cells are being attacked thru antibodies.  He then set a appointment for three months away.  Is there anything that can be done to prevent this?  What are the treatments that are needed?    What is the future hold for her, will or can this cause blindness?  He also ordered blood test to be done, what will that show?

1. Make an appointment in the near future with a retina Eye MD specialist. In the USA find one at www.aao.org
2. Use the search feature and read previous posts about pars planitis. Also use Google and search "pars planitis emedicine".

I have made a appointment with a retinia specialist, it is three months away.  I am nervous to wait that long.   Is that wait period normal or do you advise to find a specialist with a sooner appointment?   Would it be best to take her to a childrens hospitial?  We are close to Primary Childrens Hospitial in Salt Lake City, Utah, do you have anyone that you recommend there?    Linzee (my daughter) also has had large pupils does this have any connection with the pars planitis?   Linzee is 11 years old and loves sports, she is currently the goaly for her soccer team.  She loves this and has gained alot of esteem from playing . Is there anything that I should be concerned for with the sports?

large pupils is not associated with pars planitis. Given you've been told she has pars planitis the sooner she sees a retina Eye MD or a Pediatric Eye MD the better. I would not wait three months.
