peripheral retinal

What does peripheral retinal degeneration mean? Can it mean many things? My Eye MD said I have a PVD in both eyes.

1. Yes that's what I meant.
2. The part of your report you posted it "normal" and not a cause for concern.
3. It does not mean nevus or freckle.
4. Get some reassurance from your eye MD than move on.  It seems like it should be able to get that reassurance over the phone by calling his/her staff and save you some money and him/her some time.

Ok will do.

But also when you mentioned PRD. Did you mean peripheral retinal degeneration ? I just wanted to make sure.

Next thing I read my report it says on my report inferior periphery of the fundus in both eye shows punctate retinal pigment epithelium. Again does it mean its eye nevus or freckle. I'm may be wrong.

I appreciate your help. I will try make a appt with Dr.

Rather than fret on the internet why don't you call your Eye MD on Monday and ask for some reassurance its nothing to worry about. I think you will be relieved

I am not familiar with a clinical term used in ophthalmology that is "progressive" retinal degeneration.

Thanks Dr Hagan.

Let me get this corrected...it says on my report inferior periphery of the fundus in both eye shows punctate retinal pigment epithelium. Again does it mean its eye nevus or freckle. I'm assuming not. Also what is PRD? Not much on google.

peripheral retinal degeneration by themost common definition are normal changes due to age like the hair graying and are not visually significant nor do they cause disease.

PVD is posterior vitreous detachment. Something entirely different. You can use the search feature to read about PVDs.

RPE changes are like PRD normal and not visually significant. they are not like a nevus or freckle.

Other things I forgot to mention. The opthalmolgist said my slit lamp exam and visual field was normal and just said inferior periphery in both eyes shows retinal pigment epithelium changes. I'm assuming its normal. Does that mean it some kind of eye nevus or eye freckle? Just wanted some infomation.
