retinal repairs

On 5/16/11 I once again had a small retina tear in my left eye (third one) repaired with the laser .My right eye also suffered a detachment last year. I have a lot of confidence in my retina surgeon but I am getting a bit paranoid and do not want to even leave home .I enjoy lifting weights at the gym and my retina surgeon said I would be fine with this just follow-up with him in two weeks.I just would like to get another opinion about exercise and retina tears/detachments. Would it be safe to return to the gym? My second question is there any preventive measures to take to avoid future tears in that eye? Thank for your help.

1. Only an Eye MD that has looked in your eye can give an okay for that type of activity. If your retina MD has okayed it I don't think that is the sort of thing people seek second opinions about.
2. Well exercises like running, swimming, etc are find. You might want to avoid contact sports, you would want to wear proper eye protection for racquet sports, you would want to avoid things like amusement park rides that violently throw your head around. you would want to avoid yoga exercises where you attempt to stand on your head and of course you would wanted a dilated eye exam yearly by an ophthalmologist and to see one immediately with increase of floaters, flashes or loss of peripheral vision.

3. Don't turn into a hermit.
