retinal attachment surgery with silicon oil

hello everyone, my brother is visually impaired from childhood and is having an only eye which is highly myopic.
7 years back he got injured on his only eye and due to which the retina was detached including macula. Dr. fixed it by using victernomy and used silicon oil. After one year when silicon oil was removed he again started facing problem as his retina was started contracting, so Dr again injected heavy silicon oil and told that now we are going to keep silicon oil for lifetime in his eye as his eye is very sensitive.

but he also told that silicon oils have time period and due to which they are required to get exchanged with the fresh one after few years.

My only concern is that, is it safe to live life with the silicon oil inside the eye? and by again and again exchange of oil could reduce the vision? or it will same same as it was?

i am to much worried please suggest.

They tried to remove the silicon oil and the retina started to detach again. So removing the silicon oil is more risky at this point than leaving it in the eye.  I don't do retina detachment surgery so I can't answer you question about how long before, or if, it would need to be removed.
