Twitching eye and pain in socket

I have been suffering from a twitching left eye now for almost 3 months (lower lid), more recently accompanied with pain almost behind the eye?!  I have been to see my GP, who has said it is probably stress and will subside and also seen an optician, who cannot find any visual problems....  However, I really do not feel stressed, infact the last 2-3 months for me have been fairly relaxed by my normal standards, I do not drink tea/coffee and have limited caffeine intake.  I am also incredibly tired - even after 12 hours of uninterrupted sleep, I am still tired..... I have no health concerns, although I have an underactive thyroid, for which I take medication and is all under control.

Please, if anyone has any ideas of what this is and how to get rid of it, I would appreciate your comments.

You need to see an eye MD ophthalmologist physician. Please google the term Myokymia" that's what this usually is. However you need to rule out hemifacial spasms.
