5 mature folliciles - should I do IUI?

I've been doing Gonal-F injections (we're on the second round) and the dr. told me today I have 5 mature follicles. I have to decide whether to go ahead with the IUI on Friday or not. He explained the risk of multiples and I'm scared! Twins would be great but I'm not sure I could handle anything more. Should I go through with it? I hate to skip this cycle after trying for so long. Has anyone had IUI with 5 or more follicles? Thank you!

if reduction is not an option for you, then i would not do IUI with more than 3....
have they  discussed converting to IVF?

They didn't really discuss reduction but I've been doing some research and I don't think we would consider it. It's just such a scary and overwhelming decision! Thanks for your comments, I really appreciate the advice. We've been TTC for a year and a half, have tried Clomid 4 times and am on my 2nd round of Gonal-f/IUI.

Did your RE talk with you about selective reduction? The risks of being pg with more than 2? My RE would not do an iui if I was definitely going to release more than 3. My 3rd iui I definitely released 3 and there was a 30% chance I released each of 2 others. I decided to go for it and I got pg with 1 healthy DS. It worked out for me, but there is a lot to consider and me and my DH had some serious conversations about it. It's hard to imagine having the problem of too many when we try so hard to get pg with at 1, but you need to think about it. Getting pg with 3+ carries an additional risk of m/c, premature birth, pg related complications, etc. That being said, depending on your diagnosis, and how long you've been TTC, whether or not you have been pg, etc. the risk may be worth it to you. (It was to me)

Go for it!  As kricket said some follicles may be empty. Try it if you end up with multiples then there are other options. Don't give up on this cycle.

Thank you so much for the response. I've been reading that some doctors will cancel it it you have more than 3 follicles and was wondering why my dr. is leaving it up to me! :) I've done IUI once before - 2 follicles, no luck.

I say go for it!!!  We are doing these fertility treatments for a reason.  There are many times the folliciles are empty so it's a chance worth taking in my opinion.
I did IUI with 3-4 folliciles & it failed.  Then again I did 4 IVF's with no luck.

Have you done IUI yet?  How many did you have the first time?
