BFN and laparoscopy question

BFN and laparoscopy question

I am out for this month.  I am so depressed, and I wish I knew what was wrong.  I've been through 6 iui's and 5 ivf's, which I did get pregnant on my 2nd ivf, but it turned out to be ectopic.  All the rest were negatives.  I see my doctor on the 9th, should I ask her if I should do laparoscopy surgery?  Could there be something that they can find with this surgery that is making my egg quality poor?

Oh no, I am so sorry about bfn.  My heart goes out to you and your dh.

I don't think a lap can improve your egg quality.  I had one done to test for endo.  Endo can potentially decrease your egg quality but the lap cannot correct for it.  Also, ivf bypasses most of the problems that a laparoscopy is looking for.

I know of someone on this forum who had a laparotomy after several failed ivf cycles.  Laparotomy can check if everything is OK with your uterus.  Sometimes condition of your uterus can prevent implantation.

If poor embryo quality is your biggest problem I am afraid that donor eggs may be the only option.  You should talk to your RE about what can be done.

Again, I am so very sorry...  (((HUGS)))

I was in a bad car accindent in 2000 where I was hit head on going 60 miles per hour.  I had a bid bruise on my lower stomach area.  I am wondering maybe I might have scar tissue or endo. and that is the reason for the embryo quality being poor.  I did get 2 good embryos out of 5 cycles, but all the rest have not been that good.

I had a lap that uncovered scar tissue due to an old surgical scar.  I am doing my first ivf because ivf is the only procedure that goes around this problem.  Scar tissue should not affect embryo quality.  However, if you have scar tissue growing in your uterus that may be a problem for implantation (my scar tissue covers my ovaries).  You should certainly talk to your doc about that possibility.

Also, scar tissue may increase your chances of an ectopic pregnancy although probably not with ivf.  You should ask your RE about this one.

Thankyou so much for you input.  I am just at the end of my rope with this.  I just don't know what's going on and it's frustrating, so I figured if they did do this surgery than maybe things can become clearer only if they find something.  I just hate being told that I have unexplained fertility.  I feel that everything can be explained you just have to do the right test.

Actually, we were diagnosed with unexplained infertility as well and my doc suggested laparoscopy before we moved on to more invasive and expensive treatments like IUI.  I am surprised you haven't done it before moving on to IUI.  After the lap he basically told me that ivf is the only treatment that solves my scar tissue problem but it made me feel SOOOOO much better that I knew what was wrong.  There is nothing worth than unexplained infertility.  I feel so bad you have to deal with so much uncertainty.
