Can I continue to take DHEA during the 2 ww after ET?

For those who take DHEA, does anyone know whether taking DHEA during the 2ww after embryo transfer is safe and does not affect implantation or the development of the embryo?

Hi there, what brand of DHEA did you take?  Where did you buy it?  Did you get any side effects?  How long were you on it before you got pregnant?  Looking forward to your reply.  Thanks.

I saw my RE today and he says there's no harm in taking the DHEA up until you find out you are definetly pregnant. I take 3 per day and I really believe that helped me get pregnant however he also said because of my age I had a 50% chance of miscarrying because chances are the egg quality is still not great but we should still try cause there just might be a good egg somewhere somehow even at my age. Others have mentioned donor eggs but I'm still trying with my own eggs for now. I will continue to take the DHEA until I get pregnant again and until it sticks this time. Good luck my dear

I now think that DHEA is the only hope that I can have. I am 43 and had 2 IUI and 2 ivf. Each time, I had only 4 embryos and they just did not grow well. The doctors told me that the only problem I have is that my eggs are too old and the quality is not good. It was hard to know that. Finally, my last RE told me to try DHEA since there is nothing to lose.

I do acupuncture because I read that many women got pregnant after that, even naturally. Of course, I cannot do it naturally because of my age.

Thanks for sharing your story with me. You are right that we need to keep our faith and believe that it will happen.

Hi.. Okay here's my story. I did 4 IUI and 1 IVF no pregnancy. I began taking DHEA in November and they say to give it at least 4 months. I got pregnant with IUI in February after trying for 5 years. I really think the DHEA worked. As for the miscarriage it could be a lot of different things I have a few....Ah heck I have quite a few issues like I am 40 with fibroids, 1 right tube and a 9.3 FSH level so getting pregnant was a miracle. I really have faith in DHEA, and prayers. I did try accupuncture for 1 month 2 days a week but it was interferring with my job I might try it again.

I actually got a cancellation appointment on Tuesday with another RE frm my clinic and I will find out more about the DHEA and get back to you later. In the meantime keep the faith and really BELIEVE it will happen for you and it WILL.

I just read from the internet that DHEA can help to improve egg quality out of the research study done by the Center for Human Reproduction in New York. There are a lot of information on DHEA.

For desparado, Have you consider acupuncture too. It is much cheaper and I heard many stories that it helps. I just started acupuncture two weeks ago and 4 treatment.

For Kah234, you can also read the following two links. Other people wrote about their experiences.

I would like to know about DHEA too.  Did anyone get pregnant taking DHEA and have a baby or is it too new?  I'm 32 years old and my embryo quility is not too good.  They start out strong and than they stop splitting.  Any information on this subject would be great....

Thank you very much for responding to my question. When your RE returns, please ask him/her about taking DHEA after embryo transfer. You are right that not all doctors know about or believe in DHEA. I read some studies pointing in a very positive way of the DHEA. I am so glad that you can share your experience with me. I am sorry to hear that you had a miscarriage. The good news is that you can get pregnant. I think just keep trying, we can eventually be successful.

How were your egg quality different after taking the DHEA? Do they grow more cells? My embryos just did not grow enough cells even though I had 4 transferred in my last 2 ivf.

I am also doing acupuncture and hope that can improve egg quality too. I just started doing acupuncture and taking DHEA for 1 week. It will takes some time for both to come into effect.

Hope to hear from you soon.

That's such a good question. I wonder the same too but unfortunately for me my RE that told me about DHEA is away and won't be back until March 20th. Not all doctor's know about DHEA so hopefully we'll get someone here that know the answer. I was pregnant and of course didn't know and still took DHEA I stopped the minute I found out I was pregnant but wonder if taking it did any harm because I had a miscarriage. I honestly don't believe the DHEA did harm but I also don't know for sure. If I find anything out before you I'll be sure to let you know.
